“We reached an agreement last night. Both the PSD and Chega will vote in favor of the Nationality Law, and this Nationality Law will be the Nationality Law of these two parties,” stated André Ventura.
Speaking to journalists at the Assembly of the Republic, the president of Chega noted that this was “a difficult negotiation process” and called on the President of the Republic and the Constitutional Court to take this into account.
“This was a very complex negotiation process between two parties that represent more than one and a half million people each, and in which they had to negotiate technically, politically, articulating wills, seeking to bring electorates closer to ensure that the country had a nationality law, that the previous disorder had ended, the nationality mismanagement, and that we entered the club of the most restrictive in Europe from the point of view of granting nationality,” he emphasized.
André Ventura expressed hope that “there are no blocking forces that are always pulling these processes back because it is also important that all institutions understand the representativeness of what this means,” asking that the “very large majority of the Assembly of the Republic” that will approve this law be respected.
