
At a meeting in Gaia, Porto district, André Ventura spoke to journalists after discussing the situation with Rui Cristina, the Mayor of Albufeira elected by Chega, expressing his solidarity.
“This has been a terrible day. I had the opportunity this morning to express my solidarity with all the families affected nationwide by this weather disaster and depression, particularly in Albufeira,” said André Ventura.
The candidate confirmed he had conveyed “solidarity” to the Mayor of Albufeira and had received “assurances that everything necessary is being done to ensure people’s safety and prevent further harm or damage.”
Nearly 30 people were injured today in Albufeira due to an extreme wind event, two of whom are in serious condition.
The injured include Portuguese, Spanish, French, and British nationals, according to Civil Protection.
The event, occurring at 10:07, caused damage at Albufeira’s camping park resulting in the death of an 85-year-old British woman and injuries to five others, and also affected a tourist resort, with reported damage in Lagoa and Silves.
In Silves, a similar event at 11:48 caused structural damage, multiple fallen trees, and left two people homeless, who were subsequently rehoused by the Municipal Civil Protection Service.
