“There was no record of any security incident before, during, or after the hospital care of Deputy André Ventura, nor were any special security measures taken by the hospital,” stated the Algarve Local Health Unit (ULS) in a note sent to Lusa news agency.
The ULS/Algarve’s statement follows remarks by the leader of the Chega party on Thursday in Odemira, where he justified the “differentiated treatment” he received during his hospitalization in Faro for “security reasons.” This came after he felt unwell during a dinner rally on Tuesday night in Tavira.
Ventura claimed that he was placed “in a room with security at the door,” adding that the hospital only had two options: “Either I stayed with security and police or they let me be killed,” he said.
Besides the fact that no special security measures were implemented, “there was no need for specific guidance related to his status as a political elected official,” emphasized the hospital administration.
According to the ULS/Algarve, the treatment of the deputy proceeded normally and followed the clinical protocols appropriate to the presented symptoms.
“The Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where the care took place, maintained its usual dynamics, with full technical autonomy in the allocation of resources and the actions of healthcare professionals,” the note elaborated.
Clinical decisions were made based solely on medical criteria, “without external interference or special guidance,” concluded the hospital administration in Faro.
