During a campaign event in Aveiro, André Ventura was asked about the possibility of Chega winning fewer municipal councils than CDU, which holds 19, or CDS, which has six.
“This is unthinkable. I had already told you in the last elections. There’s no point in creating scenarios we’d like to imagine,” he stated.
The leader of Chega stressed the need to “forget fantasies.”
“There are three parties that can win these elections, Chega, PSD, and PS. That’s what’s at stake in these elections,” he argued.
André Ventura expressed confidence that Chega would achieve results “in line” with the legislative elections, when the party secured one million and 400 thousand votes and became the second largest force in the parliament.
Ventura noted that “Chega has a goal and a mission, which is to map the country with victories and the color of Chega.
“Being the leader of the opposition, it only has one adversary, which is the only party still above it, which is PSD,” he stated.
In Aveiro, a district with a centrist tradition and the home district of Luís Montenegro, a candidate in the legislative elections, the president of Chega remarked that “this is a combat district” where the party sees “great potential” as it is a place “where many of [its] causes manifest,” such as “in housing, insecurity, immigration.”
Ventura also insisted that voters should give “a red card” to PSD in Sunday’s municipal elections.
“Things are not well in Portugal, and it’s not just in cases. Healthcare is not well in Portugal, this Government’s health is not good, and I believe a red card is needed in these elections. This means Chega is the engine of this red card and will achieve a great result,” he emphasized.
After visits to the districts of Guarda and Viseu, Chega’s campaign day ended with a short event, roughly 150 meters long, in Aveiro, attended by several dozen people.
Earlier, the leader of Chega had visited Vale de Cambra, a municipality led by CDS-PP.
