“The Minister of Health, under these circumstances, should have already announced to the country that a complete audit will be conducted and that conclusions will be drawn from this audit. What we heard was the minister saying that when the reports from the General Inspectorate of Health Activities arrived, consequences would be drawn,” he emphasized.
Speaking ahead of the presentation of Chega’s municipal candidates in the Coimbra district this afternoon, André Ventura stated that these reports have arrived, “pointing to the responsibility of the Ministry of Health”, yet “no consequences are being drawn.”
“Therefore, this is a situation of absolute impunity and absolute disarray,” he added.
According to the leader of Chega, the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, “must, once and for all, assume her share of responsibility, which is a significant part.”
“The INEM needs an audit to identify where it is failing and why we lack necessary resources in various parts of the country,” he insisted.
In his view, if the country spent less on state organizations that “serve no purpose” and invested where healthcare is lacking, it would be possible to “certainly have much better healthcare.”
Speaking to journalists, André Ventura also mentioned that the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, should focus on this audit of the INEM and “demonstrate that what is wrong must be changed.”
“It is not just the Minister of Health who is at fault. She is at fault and should have been replaced long ago, but we have a group of leaders, as the news reports have shown, who have neither the status nor the competence to manage healthcare issues,” he argued.
According to the president of Chega, there is no need to invest more money in health.
“We need better management in health services and quicker management,” he concluded.
