During a debate initiated by the PS on the creation of an independent technical commission to investigate the fires in August, Hugo Soares made accusations against André Ventura. Ventura participated for the first hour, departing shortly after 16:00.
“When a serious debate on fires is happening, deputy André Ventura slips away quietly and is outside provoking immigrants in Portugal, this is a shame,” Soares claimed.
Hugo Soares, a PSD deputy and leader, emphasized that while many in the social-democratic ranks might believe immigration needs control, none disrupted a “legitimate demonstration.”
With the microphones off, the PSD parliamentary leader repeatedly uttered: “Arsonist, arsonist.”
The President of the Assembly of the Republic, Aguiar-Branco, expressed his frustration with the misuse of procedural figures and even threatened to halt proceedings following a first hour of debate characterized by constant deviations from the topic.
“I think those against democracy want the proceedings to be interrupted,” he remarked, urging the deputies for cooperation and institutional loyalty.
In response to Hugo Soares, Chega’s parliamentary leader, Pedro Pinto, accused the PSD’s leader in parliament of having physically threatened deputy Pedro Frazão, in a phase not audible in the room.
