Vhils opens an exhibition that is inaugurated this month at the Pyramids of Giza

The exhibition, now in its fifth edition, will be on display from November 11 to December 6, as noted on the official Art D’Égypte website. The organization, founded by Franco-Egyptian curator Nadine Abdel Ghaffar, aims to support Egyptian artistic and cultural initiatives.

The show features work by “ten renowned international artists,” including Vhils. Alongside the Portuguese artist are participants in “Forever is Now”: Brazilian Ana Ferrari, Italian Michelangelo Pistoletto, the Franco-Russian duo Recicle Group (Andrey Blokhin and Georgy Kuznetsov), Turkish Mert Ege Köse, Egyptian Salha El Masry, Lebanese Nadim Karam, Franco-Beninese King Houndekpinkou, South Korean J.Park, and American Alex Proba with SolidNature, by the Dutchman David Mahyari.

For this exhibition, Alexandre Farto created a piece using doors collected from Cairo’s streets, “transforming everyday objects into a temporary monument.”

“Placed in the desert, the doors lose their literal function and become portals between past and present, representing individual memories while alluding to collective stories built over generations and civilizations,” reads the artist’s work presentation text.

On the doors, Vhils carved portraits and patterns, evoking craftsmanship.

“The contrast with the permanence and monumentality of the Egyptian pyramids highlights the ephemeral nature of this contemporary monument, built not for pharaohs, but for the anonymous lives and stories of those who shaped this land, for those who lived here, who worked on these stories’ construction, and for those who continue to pass through today,” the text continues.

Born in 1987, Alexandre Farto grew up in Seixal, where he began painting walls and trains with graffiti at the age of 13 before moving to London to study Fine Arts at Central Saint Martins.

He gained attention by ‘excavating’ walls with portraits, a work that has been recognized nationally and internationally and that has taken the artist to various parts of the world.

In addition to several creations in Portugal, Alexandre Farto has works in countries and regions such as Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Italy, the United States, Ukraine, and Brazil, some of which involve local communities.

He is represented in various public and private art collections.
