Traffic in Viana do Castelo district was affected on the A28 (south-north direction) near the locality of Vilar de Mouros, as indicated by the National Republican Guard (GNR) in a statement.
Further south, in the Vila Real district, traffic disruptions were reported on the EN304 (both directions), with a closure between Alto de Velão and Ermelo.
In the Porto district, traffic was restricted on the EN207 (both directions) near the locality of Covas, in the municipality of Lousada.
“The protection of people and property, within the context of rural fires, remains one of GNR’s priorities, supported by preventive action and a patrolling effort in forest areas,” the note emphasizes.
The GNR also calls for preventive behavior, warning that burns and bonfires continue to be one of the “main causes of fire in Portugal.”
By 19:00, the fire that began at 23:45 on Saturday in Sirarelhos, in the municipality of Vila Real, was engaging the most resources, being fought by 611 operators, supported by 208 vehicles and eight aerial units.
This fire snaked through the mountain and entered, on Sunday, the area of the Mondim de Basto municipality, reaching the Alvão Natural Park.
The mainland of Portugal is in a state of alert from Sunday until Thursday due to the high risk of fire, announced the Minister of Internal Administration on Saturday.
