A tornado-like weather phenomenon was reported in Sardoal, Santarém district, on Saturday, following a waterspout spotted earlier near Sesimbra, Setúbal district.

Images of these occurrences are being shared on social media. According to the Instituto Português do Mar e da Atmosfera (IPMA), a tornado is defined as a “phenomenon consisting of a whirlwind of wind, forming a funnel, touching the Earth’s surface.”

The Jornal de Abrantes reported tree falls in the area, with one tree reportedly striking a house.

Just the previous day, extreme wind events were recorded in Beja and Campo Maior, confirmed by the IPMA to have been caused by two tornadoes, with wind speeds ranging from 118 to 148 kilometers per hour.

This morning, a waterspout primarily impacted the Porto de Sesimbra.
