A video captures the intense fire that erupted on a tourist ship, which eventually sank off the coast of Phuket, Thailand, where a Portuguese family, now safe, was aboard.
It has been confirmed that Portuguese consular services are already involved following a Portuguese couple and their two children sustaining minor injuries in the shipwreck, in addition to losing all their documentation.
The head of the family, Alexandre Guedes, conveyed by phone that they were on a recreational diving cruise accompanied by his wife and two children, aged 12 and 17, when the tourist vessel was hit by a storm, becoming inoperable and catching fire around 04:00 local time, leading to its sinking.
The Guedes family, alongside the other 12 foreign tourists and the crew involved in the four-day tour, had to don life jackets and jump into the sea, losing all their personal belongings and documents before being rescued by another nearby vessel.

The passengers and crew incurred only minor scrapes during the rescue; however, they lost money, belongings, and all necessary documentation required for their return to Portugal.
Meanwhile, Alexandre Guedes and his family have activated the SOS service from the Portuguese consulate to address the document loss, given they have a scheduled flight back to Portugal on Monday.
An official from the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Portuguese Consular Emergency Office in Thailand is aware of the incident, and the document replacement is already in process, noting that “everything will be ready soon” to facilitate the family’s return to Portugal.
The family had been in Phuket since Tuesday, after arriving from Bangkok, to enjoy a four-day recreational diving program (Liveaboard), when a powerful storm led to the fire and sinking of the ship ‘MV DiveRace Class E’, with about 30 people on board, including tourists and crew.
They were rescued by another ship named ‘MV RAGA’.
