The Municipal Executive of Vila de Rei unanimously approved in its ordinary meeting held on February 3, the proposed protocol of collaboration with the Tourism of Portugal with a view to implementing the ‘Training Program + Proxima’. This program is part of the ‘Plan Reactivate Tourism | Build the Future’ that aims to put the tourism sector back on the path of growth pre-Covid 19, valuing the territory and communities and boosting the economy. The ‘Training + Proximity Program’ aims to massively empower the sector’s employees through digital and on-site training, with content tailored to the sector’s future needs; contribute to the improvement of skills of employees of tourism and related companies; contribute to a greater knowledge of the Municipalities and their agents, in order to contribute to add value to the local business fabric and its territory. Based on the approved protocol proposal, Turismo de Portugal, through Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo do Oeste, commits itself to elaborate a diagnosis plan of the specific training needs of each territory, and then create a Training Plan that meets the needs of the Municipality. A complementary Training Plan will also be created to train the Municipality’s technicians and partner entities. For its part, the Municipality of Vila de Rei will ensure the existence of spaces and equipment suitable for training, collaborate in the diagnosis of specific needs of the municipality and identify strategic local partners and promote their involvement in the implementation and promotion of the program. The Deputy Mayor and responsible for Tourism, Paulo César Luís, says that “the signing of this protocol will be another important step in the development of tourism in Vila de Rei, helping to make it more sustainable, more responsible and more competitive. Tour operators in our municipality will have access to new tools that we hope can be translated into important gains for the development of their business and, consequently, of tourism in Vila de Rei. This training plan will be carried out in close coordination with the team that is developing the tourism development plan of the Municipality of Vila de Rei.”
