The mayor of Miranda do Douro announced this Wednesday that the Vila Galé group will invest 14 million euros in the construction of a hotel unit in the city, expecting to create 38 jobs.
“The project involves the construction, installation and operation of a hotel unit, equivalent to four stars, by the Vila Galé group. We are monitoringthis project that is around 14 million euros and the expected creation of 38 jobs, “Helena Barril told Lusa.
According to the mayor of the district of Bragança, this hotel unit will have 60 rooms and a construction area of 4,500 square meters.
“This is a structuring investment for the municipality of Miranda do Douro that will boost the local economy. The future hotel development will not create a dent with the entrepreneurs of the branch that are already operating in this territory. We will have a follow-up offer that did not exist until now”, said Helena Barril.
This future hotel development, in the opinion of the mayor, could attract a medium / high segment public to the city and municipality of Miranda do Douro.
Helena Barril also added that the assembly of the construction site for the hotel will start at the end of this year, with a deadline of about two and a half years for the completion of the tourist equipment.
According to the municipality of Miranda do Douro, the tourist resort will be part of the “Collection” range of the group’s hotels and will be called Hotel Vila Galé Mirandum.
The municipality of Miranda do Douro ceded, after a public tender for surface rights and for a period of 60 years, a plot of land with an area of approximately 41 thousand square meters located in the vicinity of the dam, in the middle of the Douro International.
“There were other consultations by several interested parties to this initiative to transfer the surface rights, but the winner was the Vila Galé hotel group,” said the Mirandese mayor.
Contacted by Lusa, the Vila Galé group confirms that it participated in a tender that is still taking place within the legal deadlines.
“If the proposal is accepted, further details will be communicated in due course,” said a group source.
