More valuable is a local kilowatt than two from afar—and if it’s 100% green, even better.
“Local Pride” is the theme of the new campaign by Goldenergy, a company that provides 100% green electricity and natural gas, born and headquartered in Vila Real, and ranked as the third largest energy provider in the country. Despite its roots in the interior, the company powers all of Portugal.
The Portuguese company, standing second on the list of the 500 largest companies in Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, with its green electricity and natural gas, has not forgotten its origins. It has grown alongside the people of Vila Real, speaking their language, and now proudly showcases this connection.
“Rather bundled up than shivering with cold”; “Better a Lapantim than a racing Carapau”; “Rather tangled than all dirty.” If you find yourself reaching for a dictionary, welcome to the dialect of Vila Real. These expressions may sound peculiar to outsiders, yet they embody the humor and northern wisdom. Truthfully, each of us holds dear the expressions of our region, for the collective also shapes individual identity.
The new campaign highlights these local expressions, thus celebrating this valuable cultural heritage.
This is what makes the campaign unique: it highlights Vila Real, yet people across the country can relate to this pride in local roots. Real individuals, not actors—neighbors, aunts, grandparents, friends from Vila Real—show authenticity and pride in what it means to be from the region.

“Goldenergy wants to be close in everything it does and speak the language of its clients,” explains Miguel Checa, General Manager of Goldenergy. “The way we express ourselves is a key feature that distinguishes Vila Real. We are from here, we are proud of it, and we are very grateful to our teams, as we want the people of Vila Real to be proud of us and what we already represent nationwide. We aim to reinforce this connection in a fun way with this local campaign,” he adds.
The multimedia campaign has already begun and will continue until the end of November, spreading good vibes and positive energy throughout the streets. But it doesn’t stop there. As part of a special action in 2026, all babies born in Vila Real will receive a welcome kit.
