At present, 110 operatives and 35 vehicles are battling a fire with “two active fronts” in a forested area, according to José Rodrigues from the National Command of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection.
However, he assured that “due to wind and difficult access, additional resources will be deployed tonight,” expressing concern about the fire’s potential spread, despite one front yielding to the firefighters’ efforts.
The fire originated in Spain, and upon crossing the border, Spanish authorities alerted Portuguese Civil Protection, the official explained.
Additionally, assistance in combatting the fire included “seven Spanish aerial units,” he reported.
In total, as of 16:21, the site was supported by 13 aerial units, 15 firefighting vehicles, and 71 operatives, as listed on the official Civil Protection page.
