Vinhos Verdes strengthen their presence in Asia with actions in four territories this year

The Comissão de Viticultura da Região dos Vinhos Verdes (CVRVV) announced a comprehensive set of initiatives as part of the “Plano de Promoção 2025,” aiming to bolster its presence in Asia by involving around 30 regional producers.

The focus is on emerging markets such as Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia, in addition to Japan, which already represents a business worth over 1.6 million euros, with annual growth exceeding 20%.

The “Annual Tasting of the Vinhos Verdes Demarcated Region in Taiwan” will feature 13 producers and over 100 wines. The CVRVV will host two educational seminars aimed at trade and media professionals, led by sommelier and wine educator Thomas Ho.

Thomas Ho is the founder of LE SOMM, collaborates with Michelin-starred restaurants, serves as an assistant professor at the National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (NKUHT), and is the executive director of the Taiwan Sommelier Association (TSA).

As for the ProWine Tokyo 2025, 16 producers will participate in the international fair, which will also include two educational seminars on “The native grape varieties of the Vinhos Verdes Demarcated Region” and “Unexpected wines from the Vinhos Verdes Demarcated Region,” conducted by sommelier and wine educator Koichi Tanabe.

Scheduled for July and September, Singapore and Malaysia events aim to showcase the region, the variety of Vinho Verde styles, their adaptability for different consumption occasions, and their potential for aging and culinary pairing.

Carla Cunha, CVRVV’s marketing director, stated in the communication that “the CVRVV has allocated a budget of 2.9 million euros for the 2025 Promotion Plan, covering more than 10 strategic markets, with a special focus on new areas like Taiwan, Singapore, and Malaysia, to explore new geographies and follow the growth trend seen in Japan.”

“The Asian market is very receptive to Vinho Verde wines due to their highly gastronomic and versatile profile, ideal for pairing with local cuisine,” she noted.
