
The Internal Security Annual Report (RASI) for 2024, approved today by the Higher Council for Internal Security and now proceeding to parliament, indicates significant increases in violent and serious crime in several districts. Santarém experienced the highest rise with a 33.3% increase compared to 2023, followed by Castelo Branco with a 30.5% rise, Portalegre at 3.4%, and Leiria seeing a 28.2% uptick.
The districts of Porto and Faro also saw increases in violent and serious crime, with Porto witnessing a 4.8% rise and Faro a 9.9% increase.
Conversely, the district recording the most substantial decrease in this type of crime was Guarda, with a reduction of 25%.
The RASI also highlights declines in Setúbal by 6.3% and in Lisbon by 1.8%, which, along with Porto, are the districts that centralize the majority of criminal activities.
Regarding overall crime rates, only Coimbra and Évora reported slight increases, at 0.2% and 0.1% respectively, while all other districts recorded decreases.
The report emphasizes the reductions in Lisbon by 7.6% and Setúbal by 5.1%.
