The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) confirmed on Thursday the arrest of a suspect in the stabbing of two women during the early hours of Wednesday in Montijo. The incident occurred when one of the victims, the suspect’s former partner, went to his residence to collect her belongings following the end of their relationship.
In a statement released on Thursday, the PJ reported the arrest in Montijo of “a foreign male, aged 26, strongly suspected of attempted double homicide and possession of a prohibited weapon.”
According to authorities, the victims are two foreign women, aged 25 and 28.
The crime was committed on November 19, when the PJ was informed by the Polícia de Segurança Pública (PSP) in Barreiro that the two victims had been admitted to the Barreiro Hospital with multiple stab wounds.
“Investigations revealed that the 25-year-old victim had previously been in a conflict-ridden relationship with the suspect in Brazil,” the PJ explained.
On the day of the crime, the victim had arranged to visit the suspect’s residence to retrieve her belongings, accompanied by a friend.
While inside the car, the suspect approached from the passenger side, where his ex-partner was seated, and inflicted several stab wounds with the intention of causing her death, considering the number and location of the injuries.
Subsequently, with the same weapon, he attacked the friend in the driver’s seat, also intending to cause her death. Both women were admitted to Barreiro Hospital for medical treatment.
The suspect, an undocumented immigrant in Portugal, is considered violent, with indications of repeated domestic violence against his ex-partner. He will face a preliminary court hearing to determine coercive measures.
