Viral video of a student leaving class after insulting a teacher was a prank.

A video purportedly capturing a heated confrontation between a university student and her professor circulated widely on social media earlier this week. The scene, set in an auditorium at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), concludes with the student insulting her professor and storming out, receiving applause from fellow students.

This incident sparked significant discussion online as the student won praise for her perceived bravery. However, it has now emerged that the video, which dates back several years, is a staged performance. Here are the details:

Viral Video

The video displays a verbal altercation between the student and the professor in a crowded auditorium. The student seems to be trying to submit an excuse for her absence, citing the need to care for her child—an explanation the professor refuses to accept.

The professor is purportedly heard asking if the child has grandparents to stay with, adding that if one chooses to have children, they shouldn’t attend university.

As tensions flare, the student dramatically declares her disdain for the professor before leaving the room, visibly upset, prompting applause from the other students.

Social Media Uproar

The video’s virality led many to support the student, expressing shock at the professor’s remarks. Others, however, noted that while the student had a point, she lost credibility due to her aggressive reaction.

Some argued that the supportive students should have shown solidarity by leaving the auditorium alongside their colleague.

Staged Scene Revealed

While the enactment was convincing, some viewers questioned its authenticity. It was revealed on Wednesday that the event was indeed part of a student initiation ritual or “praxe.”

The Notícias de Coimbra clarified that the scene was a “ghost lecture,” a prank by senior students aimed at first-year students at UTAD. The video, being quite old, depicts an orchestrated event including an introduction by faculty heads followed by standard lectures culminating in the staged act.

This prank revelation was later marked on the social media platform where the video gained traction, noting it as a tradition, not a real incident involving a professor.

“It’s part of a prank staged by older students for freshers. It isn’t a real incident with a professor,” reads the social media alert.
