Vortex operation

In the manner that all investigations conducted under the Secrecy of Justice end up being released to the press (or ostensibly leaked), new revelations are forthcoming implicating Joao Pinto Moreira, a PSD lawmaker and former mayor of Espinho, in the Operation Vortex probe.

Miguel Reis, Pinto Moreira’s successor, is already in preventive detention for his alleged involvement in Vortex.

Now, it seems that additional dirt has been uncovered about Pinto Moreira, an acquaintance of party leader Lus Montenegro: Pinto Moreira is believed to have exerted pressure on authorities to create an old people’s home (which was to be built by a man who is also currently in preventive custody) who wanted to build it and was to receive money for doing so.

He is also suspected of “asking for favors to approve a family member’s building project.”

Pinto Moreira has not been named an official suspect in the Vortex investigation, and he continues to enjoy parliamentary immunity. In addition, he has categorically denied any allegations of corruption.
