Votes from emigrants in the Legislative Elections begin to be counted today

The postal vote counting operation will commence at 09:00 at the Feira Industrial de Lisboa (FIL) facilities in Parque das Nações.

A total of 1,050 members across 150 tables, with seven members each, will collect and count the votes of Portuguese emigrants. For this purpose, 1,578,890 envelopes, including the ballot paper, were sent to 192 destinations.

Envelopes arriving by the postal delivery deadline on Wednesday will be counted, with results expected by that evening, concluding the May 18 election process.

These votes will determine whether the Socialist Party (PS) or Chega secures second place in this election.

For the elected deputies by Europe and Outside Europe, two representatives will be selected for each of these constituencies.

In the past two decades, the PS and the Social Democratic Party (PSD) shared the mandates across Europe and Outside Europe regions. This bipartisanship ended in 2024 when Chega managed to elect one deputy in each constituency.
