Voting for parties that already have a parliamentary group “will not make a difference”

“On May 18, it’s the only opportunity we have to rescue the parliamentary group, to give more strength to PAN. Voting for the major parties or those already growing, as the polls suggest, with established parliamentary groups, won’t make any difference,” stated Inês de Sousa Real after being asked whether she saw enough support during the campaign to achieve the goal of electing a parliamentary group.

Inês de Sousa Real made these remarks to journalists during a brief walk with the PAN campaign in contact with the public in the Avenida de Roma area in Lisbon.

The PAN leader further expressed that “people have shown great concern that PAN might disappear from the Assembly of the Republic,” reflecting the sentiments seen in the polls, and argued that if voters “want to cast a meaningful vote, that vote should be for PAN.”

Sousa Real emphasized, “despite the affection” she has felt throughout the campaign, “it’s important for people” to solidify their support for the party with a vote this coming Sunday.

The PAN leader asserted that the party “has legitimacy to request a parliamentary group” after being “the hardest working party” over the last legislative session, urging voters to “vote with their hearts.”

Asked about the highlights of this campaign, Inês de Sousa Real highlighted gathered testimonies, this Thursday in Braga, from victims of domestic violence who, as she exemplified, managed to “break cycles of violence” after many years.

“These are life stories that show us that behind the numbers, there are very real, specific cases of people who have experienced a lifetime of violence,” she added.

Conversely, regarding the lowest point of this campaign, the PAN leader regretted that during the radio debate among all parties there was “little opportunity to clarify what were truly the concerns” of the candidacies.

“We witnessed an absolutely regrettable moment of the parties interrupting each other and arguing without clarifying to people what really concerns them,” she criticized.
