Voting is proceeding normally, ensures the CNE.

An official from the National Election Commission indicated by 9:00 AM there were no reports of issues with the opening of polling stations.

“[There were] a few very isolated cases of missing members at some stations, but these were resolved before the stations opened. As of now [9:00 AM] we have no record of any problems at the opening of polling stations,” the official stated.

The polls opened at 8:00 AM and will remain open until 7:00 PM. In the Azores, they open and close 60 minutes later than those on the mainland and Madeira, due to the one-hour time difference.

Over 9.3 million voters are registered for these municipal elections, according to enrollment data provided by the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration.

Of the 9,303,840 registered voters, 9,262,722 are nationals, and the remainder includes 18,319 EU foreign voters and 22,799 non-EU foreign voters, both groups registered in the national territory.

Voters will elect leaderships for 308 Municipal Chambers, 308 Municipal Assemblies, and 3,221 Parish Assemblies, requiring three ballots.

In total, 1,584 lists from parties, coalitions, and citizen groups are candidates for the Municipal Chambers, 1,519 for the Municipal Assemblies, and 9,764 lists for the Parish Assemblies, according to the most recent data from the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration.
