The deadline for taxpayers to submit their 2024 IRS income declarations is today.
Statistics from the Finance Portal indicate that nearly six million (5,905,651) declarations had been filed by Friday.
The deadline for submitting the IRS falls on June 30, a significant date for those not covered by the automatic IRS, as they must manually fill out and submit their declarations via the Finance Portal.
For those eligible for the automatic IRS, the declaration is considered submitted on the final day of the deadline, even if not manually validated on the portal.
Under current legislation, the tax authority has until July 31 to process submitted declarations, with reimbursements due by August 31.
Last year, individuals using the automatic IRS received their tax refunds approximately 13 days after submission on average.
For those who complete and submit the declaration through the ‘normal’ method, the wait for a refund is typically longer, exceeding 20 days last year.
This year, due to reduced or annulled IRS withholdings in September and October, the anticipated refunds will be smaller, as much of the excess withheld tax was already returned during those months.
For taxpayers who owe taxes (due to insufficient withholdings or income not subject to withholding), the payment deadline is also August 31.
