Wall Street ends higher (thanks to a ceasefire between Israel and Iran)

The results of the session indicate that the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1.19%, the Nasdaq advanced 1.43%, and the S&P500 rose 1.11%.

“The stock market continues to evolve with a dual sense of relief and confidence,” summarized the operators of Briefing.com in an analytical note.

“Investors are convinced that the war between Israel and Iran will not be long-lasting,” said Peter Cardillo of Spartan Capital Securities, speaking to AFP.

Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that Iran and Israel had agreed to a ceasefire after 12 days of war.

“The peace in the Middle East (excluding the situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territories), at least for now, satisfies investors,” noted analyst Jose Torres of Interactive Brokers, indicating a greater willingness to invest.

The volatility index (VIX), known as the ‘fear index’, which measures investor nervousness, fell by more than 12 percentage points.

Indicators showed a decline in consumer confidence in June, following a recovery in May. An index measuring this variable fell by 5.4 points in June, where analysts had anticipated an increase.

Consumers “remain concerned about the inflationary impact of tariff rates” and “the view of job market stability continued to deteriorate,” highlighted Grace Zwemmer of Oxford Economics in an analytical note.

Stock operators were also monitoring the hearing of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell in the Finance Committee of the House of Representatives.

The central bank leader reiterated that he “sees no urgency” in lowering the benchmark interest rate.

On Wednesday, Powell will be heard in the Senate.
