Wall Street opens higher after employment data exceeds expectations

At 2:45 p.m. Lisbon time, the Dow Jones index rose by 0.50% to 44,707.13 points, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq gained 0.55% to 20,504.87 points.

The broader S&P 500 index advanced 0.41% to 6,252.74 points.

On Wednesday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average edged down 0.02%, whereas the Nasdaq increased 0.94% and the S&P 500 rose 0.47%, both closing at record-high levels.

U.S. employers added 147,000 jobs in June, indicating resilience in the labor market amidst concerns over the tariff policies implemented by President Donald Trump.

Furthermore, the U.S. Department of Labor reported that unemployment claims in the country stood at 233,000 last week, a decrease of 4,000 from the revised figure of the previous week.
