Wall Street opens lower following the decline of global markets

Around 2:50 PM in Lisbon, the Dow Jones fell by 0.72% to 41,284.14 points, while the broader S&P 500 lost 1.30% to 5,508.66 points, following significant losses last Friday.

Of the three major indices of the New York Stock Exchange, the Nasdaq experienced the steepest decline, dropping 2.33% to 16,920.07 points.

Last week, Donald Trump announced plans to impose a 25% tariff on all cars exported to the U.S. starting April 2.

Last Friday, Wall Street ended with substantial losses due to the uncertainty provoked by the tariffs and their potential economic impact.

The Dow Jones closed with a decline of 1.69% to 41,583.90 points, compared to its all-time high since its inception in 1896 of 45,014.04 points reached on December 4, 2024.

The Nasdaq, an index dominated by high-tech stocks, ended the day down 2.70% to 17,322.99 points, compared to its record high of 20,173.89 points observed on December 16, 2024.
