
At 14:45 (Lisbon time), the Dow Jones index slipped 0.07% to 45,607.93 points and the tech-heavy Nasdaq fell 0.73% to 21,543.08 points.
The broad S&P 500 index decreased by 0.22% to 6,487.42 points.
On Thursday, the New York Stock Exchange closed higher, with the Dow Jones rising 0.16%, reaching a new high.
Inflation in the US, as measured by the Consumer Price Index, remained nearly stable at 2.6% in July, the US Commerce Department reported today.
Excluding the more volatile categories of food and energy, prices increased by 2.9% year-on-year, above the 2.8% reported the previous month.
The US Federal Reserve has been hesitant to cut interest rates at a time when inflation is below the 7% reached three years ago, yet still above the 2% target.
