At 2:54 PM Lisbon time, the Dow Jones index fell by 0.28%, reaching 42,322.17 points, while the Nasdaq decreased by 0.16% to 19,429.40 points.
Meanwhile, the S&P 500 index was at 5,970.94 points, a decline of 0.02%.
On Wednesday, New York’s stock market closed with no clear direction, with the Dow Jones losing 0.22%.
The U.S. trade deficit decreased by 55.5% to $61.6 billion in April, the same month when the U.S. President imposed global tariffs on trading partners, it was announced.
According to a report from the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), there was a decline of $76.7 billion compared to March’s $138.3 billion.
It was also announced that unemployment benefit applications in the United States were at 247,000 last week, an increase of 8,000 from the revised level of the previous week, revealed the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL).
The previous level was revised down from 240,000 to 239,000.
The four-week moving average was 235,000, an increase of 4,500 compared to the revised average of the previous week, which went from 230,750 to 230,500.
