The real estate market is still on the rise, and the Portuguese are increasingly looking for alternatives to be able to buy a house, among them, the possibility of relocating to places where properties are cheaper. These are the municipalities where it is most affordable to buy a house.
According to data from Idealista, of the 25 cheapest municipalities to buy a house in Portugal, Gavião, in the district of Portalegre, ranks first, with owners of this municipality asking, on average, 401 euros per square meter (euros / m2), making this the cheapest square meter in the country to buy a house.
The top 5 of the cheapest municipalities is completed by Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, in Guarda (404 €/m2), Nisa, in Portalegre (430 €/m2), Penamacor, in Castelo Branco (436 €/m2) and Celorico da Beira, in Guarda (443 €/m2).
For less than 500 euros per square meter, there are also the municipalities Pinhel, in Guarda (448 euros / m2), Góis, in Coimbra (450 euros / m2), Sabugal, in Guarda (466 euros / m2), Sousel, in Portalegre (468 euros / m2), Castanheira de Pêra, in Leiria (497 euros / m2) and Penacova, in Coimbra (497 euros / m2).
The values continue to decrease from locality to locality, with the last place being occupied by the municipality of Alvaiázere, in Leiria, costing the square meter 576 euros.
On the other hand, the study also found the five locations where it is most expensive to buy a house in Portugal. Unsurprisingly, Lisbon is at the top of the list where the square meter costs €5,351, followed by Grândola (€4,706/m2), Cascais (€4,627/m2), Oeiras (€3,967/m2) and Loulé (€3,842/m2).
