Want to exchange appliances? Government program already has 391 suppliers

The E-Lar program, which aims to facilitate the exchange of household appliances for more efficient ones, already includes 391 suppliers, with an additional 87 applications in progress, as reported by the Ministry of the Environment to Notícias ao Minuto on Wednesday.

“As of this week, we have 391 supplier applications submitted and 87 in the process of being completed under the E-Lar Program,” stated a source from the Ministry.

What is the E-Lar program?

“The E-LAR Program is an initiative of the PRR (Recovery and Resilience Plan) aiming to provide financial support for the electrification of equipment in residential buildings. Its main goal is to replace fossil fuel-based solutions (such as gas) with more efficient and sustainable electric alternatives, thus contributing to the electrification of residential consumption,” reads an informative document about the topic published on Fundo Ambiental’s website.

This program generally aims to “improve the thermal comfort of homes and support families in acquiring efficient equipment, in electrifying energy consumption, in decarbonization, and in collecting and recycling gas equipment.”

According to the same document, four objectives are established:

  1. Strengthen the fight against energy poverty and promote the thermal comfort of homes.
  2. Promote energy efficiency by encouraging the replacement of old equipment with new ones that consume less.
  3. Accelerate the electrification of energy consumption and decarbonization by supporting the replacement of gas equipment (e.g., stoves, ovens, and heaters) with electric ones (electric hobs, stoves, or storage water heaters).
  4. Contribute to the collection and recycling of old equipment, enhancing performance in this waste stream within a circular economy context.

“The deadline for applications by beneficiaries begins on September 30, 2025, and continues until the expected depletion of the allocated funds, with a final date of June 30, 2026,” as stated in the same disclosed document.
