With the warmer days, air conditioning usage can account for up to 15% of your electricity bill, based on calculations by Selectra. Fortunately, there are several tips that can help manage this issue.
“With the arrival of summer and rising temperatures, air conditioning is once again one of the most used appliances in Portuguese households. However, its regular use can significantly impact the electricity bill, reaching, in some cases, up to 15% of the total monthly cost,” stated a release sent to Notícias ao Minuto.
Tips to Save
To save on air conditioning usage, Selectra recommends the following tips:
- Set the temperature to 25°C in the summer (energy consumption increases by 7% for each Celsius degree);
- Use the fan or dehumidifier mode, which consumes less energy;
- Keep doors and windows closed while the unit is running;
- Regularly clean the filters;
- Opt for Inverter equipment with a good energy rating. Inverter technology is more efficient and maintains stable climate control, unlike conventional systems that operate in on/off cycles, consuming more energy;
- On very hot days, run the air conditioning during the cooler hours of the morning and keep blinds or shutters closed.
