War may raise prices. Government “will intervene” if necessary.

There is always a risk of rising inflation, José Manuel Fernandes assured that the Government is vigilant “and, if necessary, will intervene,” especially in light of a significant increase in agricultural production costs, such as fuels.

There is, as we all know, a certain level of unpredictability right now, and the war could escalate or suddenly end,” argued the official, advocating for a “measured and non-alarmist attitude”.

The minister also mentioned that the assistance provided to farmers—particularly within the framework of the Common Agricultural Policy, whose simplification is being negotiated—is also “an indirect support to consumers.”

“In the face of growing instability in the geopolitical situation, food security is increasingly important, and, as I have often repeated, it is also a defense,” added José Manuel Fernandes.
