The municipality of Oeiras, along with the Municipal Civil Protection Service, issued a warning this Monday about the forecast of heavy rain and strong winds expected in the region on Tuesday and Wednesday, the 28th and 29th, respectively.
On its Instagram page, the Oeiras Municipality advises:
- Avoid traveling near coastal and riverside areas, or be especially cautious if you must pass through these areas;
- Avoid any maritime activity such as fishing and water sports;
- Avoid parking vehicles on the waterfront;
- Be aware of possible water sheets on the roads and adopt defensive and reduced speed driving;
- Do not cross flooded areas to avoid the risk of people or vehicles being swept away;
- Ensure loose structures like scaffolding, billboards, and other suspended structures are properly secured;
- In strong winds, be cautious when passing through wooded areas due to the possible fall of branches;
- In case of thunderstorms, never seek shelter under a tall and isolated tree;
- Keep away from equipment, networks, and metal pipes, railways, or any other metal paths that might conduct electrical discharges from a considerable distance;
- Follow the instructions of the Security Forces.
The municipality also pledges to monitor the “evolution of weather conditions” and to issue “new alerts as necessary.”
According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), this week will be characterized by frequent episodes of heavy rainfall, especially on Wednesday. The IPMA also forecasts the possibility of thunderstorms, with a higher probability in the southern part of the country.
The first episode of heavy rain is expected on Tuesday afternoon, the 28th, and Wednesday, the 29th. But then it returns – stay updated on the week’s forecasts.
