
Images shared on social media captured the dramatic moment when a waterspout startled the population of Havana, Cuba.
In the footage, which can be seen below and in the gallery above, the large scale of this phenomenon is evident, resembling a funnel-shaped cloud, typically less intense than cyclones or tornadoes occurring on land.
Contrary to what might be initially assumed, this phenomenon does not actually draw water from the river or sea where it occurs. The water observed in the funnel-shaped cloud consists merely of water droplets formed by condensation.
Cuban media reported that there were no injuries or material damage.
