“It is a historic night, we broke the bipartisanship in Entroncamento,” stated Nelson Cunha in statements to Lusa after securing the municipal chamber of Entroncamento in the Santarém district from the PS, with 37.34% of the votes, electing three councilors.
The Chega candidate expressed that this outcome signifies that the people of Entroncamento trust the party “to bring the necessary change” and acknowledged the responsibility placed upon him “to respond to all” those who entrusted this “arduous” task to his team.
“I want to thank all the people of Entroncamento who entrusted us with this task, who entrusted their vote, their lives basically for the next four years, and we will do everything to meet all that Entroncamento needs,” he emphasized.
On Tuesday, during a campaign action, Chega’s president, André Ventura, had expressed hope for the occurrence of “the Entroncamento phenomenon” today, in the municipality that the party won in the last legislative elections in May.
Chega won today’s municipal elections in Entroncamento, in the Santarém district, a municipality that was governed by the PS, according to provisional data from the Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI).
According to MAI data, Chega secured the municipality with 37.34%, ensuring three elected positions, while the PSD/CDS-PP coalition obtained 30.55%, securing two mandates.
The PS, previously governing the municipality, came in third with 22.14% of the votes and will have two councilors.
In the 2021 municipal elections, the PSD also came in second (three mandates), followed by Chega (one mandate). The PS had three elected.
