“We hope that the strike impacts as little as possible,” confessed the minister.

During a press conference at the Ministry of Health in Lisbon on rising flu activity and the contingency plan, Ana Paula Martins addressed the potential impact of the general strike aimed at opposing proposed labor law changes by the government.

“What I can say is that we hope the strike impacts urgent situations as little as possible, but I can’t guarantee or confirm this; it will naturally depend on what happens on the day of the general strike,” she stated.

Ana Paula Martins noted that all entities have negotiated their respective minimum services.

She also expressed the hope that, given the coincidence of the general strike occurring amid rising flu cases, health services would do their utmost.

“In these moments of great pressure on health services due to these situations, particularly these additional care needs, we have always relied on health professionals. This is, if I may say, my hope,” said Ana Paula Martins.
