“We know what we need most: feet firmly on the ground”

“We know who we are: the party of gender equality, we are internationalists against barbarism, we are idea and body, we are the modern left that wants the greater Portugal of freedom and socialism. But above all, we know what we need most: feet firmly on the ground. Clear answers: salary, house, and hospital,” urged Francisco Louçã.

The founder of BE spoke at the 14th National Convention of BE, taking place at the municipal pavilion of Casal Vistoso in Lisbon, during one of the party’s most critical moments, delivering some messages to those present, similar to the remarks by founder Fernando Rosas, moments earlier.

Louçã called for a party with “feet firmly on the ground,” “driven by grassroots organization in the long-term struggle,” because “it is the persistence of the ant that sustains life.”

“There is only class struggle with militant organization, with activity nuclei where things are learned, decided, and done,” warned Louçã.

The messages continued: “Win over the youth and organize workers,” “expand broad social movements,” empower “the power of militant nuclei,” and “set foot in our land.”

“And this is our response, our message for the future,” he emphasized.

Louçã recalled the legacy of BE and stated that “overcoming the impossible” has always been “the life” of the party members.

“The BE has always been the most fundamental party for the democratization of Portuguese democracy,” he highlighted.
