Nicole Kidman is the latest to fall in love with Portugal. Hollywood stars are moving here with all their bags packed.
Nicole Kidman is the latest international star to fall head over heels in love with Portugal. The 55-year-old Australian actress and her husband, country singer Keith Urban, 55, are preparing to move to Portugal, specifically Lisbon.
The couple is said to have fallen in love with a property at the Expo and are preparing to be a regular presence in the riverside area with their two daughters, Sunday Rose, 14, and Faith Margaret, 13, at a time when some of the major Hollywood studios are scouting the market around Lisbon to have a giant studio here for their productions, which are becoming increasingly expensive in other countries. Lisbon would join London and Prague in this field.
But Nicole Kidman is not the first to fall in love with Lisbon’s light. Eric Cantona, the former France international and Manchester United star from whom Cristiano Ronaldo inherited the number 7 jersey, moved to Lisbon with his wife a few years ago. “Lisbon was a real discovery. And it still is. It’s an inspiring city with a very strong energy. I’m really in love with it,” admitted the actor in an interview with Visão magazine.
Madonna also spent a lot of time on Portuguese soil. The singer lived in the capital for two years while her son David Banda was training at Benfica. Moreover, the album “Madame X” is born from the adventures of the queen of pop to some places in the capital that mix Portuguese and Cape Verdean culture.
Madonna lived in Lapa, but it was also possible to see her in Cascais and Comporta, otherwise where she has already returned after returning to New York, for a stay once again in the luxury hotel Sublime.
Soon after, two more visitors arrived. First Monica Belluci. The Italian star bought a property in the Castle area, where she was seen once or twice before she disappeared. The same area where Michael Fassebender and Alicia Vikander also bought homes. However, the two would eventually move to the Alfama area after buying a huge house, a T5 valued at two million euros in 2018.
Designer Christian Louboutin, on the other hand, began by vacationing in Sintra and Comporta before moving to Portugal. On April 1, he opened a hotel with only 13 rooms called “Vermelho” in Melides, where he also has a house. But the designer is so happy here that he intends to open two more properties in the Alentejo for luxury tourism, even betting on Michelin-starred restaurants. And this already in 2024…
Jaime Dournan is also here… more discreetly. The actor, born in Northern Ireland, came to Portugal to record ‘Heart of Stone’ and fell in love with our country. The ’50 Shades of Gray’ star, however, seems to have returned to being discreet after being caught once, as he was never seen again.
Singer Bonnie Tyler and actor John Malkovich, who has already been made an honorary citizen by the mayor of Lisbon, are regulars in Portugal, especially in the Algarve (like singer Sir Cliff Richard), but also in Lisbon. He is a partner in the famous Lux Frágil nightclub and the Bica do Sapato restaurant, both in Santa Apolónia.
