Weather for all tastes. Rest of April with rain… and also sun

As April reaches its midpoint, rain has returned to Portugal following a brief period of warm and sunny weather. The remainder of the month is expected to witness a similar pattern, alternating between rainy and sunny days across mainland Portugal, with the weekly average temperature predicted to stay below normal, as stated by the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

According to the extended forecast from IPMA, starting on April 14, total weekly precipitation is expected to be above normal, while the average weekly temperature will likely remain below normal.

During the week of April 14 to 20, total weekly precipitation is anticipated to be “above normal (1 to 60mm)” particularly in the North and Center regions.

As for temperature forecasts, a “negative anomaly (-3 to -0.25°C)” is expected throughout the territory. The probability of the average weekly temperature falling below normal is estimated to be “between 40-80%”, the IPMA highlights.

Projections become less certain for the week of April 21 to 27. Concerning precipitation, the IPMA does not identify “any statistically significant signal,” which indicates a lack of conclusive predictions.

In terms of temperature, a “positive anomaly (0.25 to 1°C)” is anticipated for almost the entire territory, with the exception of the southern interior, at a 99% significance level, particularly in coastal regions. The likelihood of the average weekly temperature exceeding normal ranges “between 30-50%”.

For the week of April 28 to May 4, precipitation is expected to “be below normal across the entire territory.” The probability of total weekly precipitation falling below normal stands “between 40-60%”, according to the IPMA.

Forecasts suggest a “positive temperature anomaly (0.25 to 3°C)” across the entire territory, with a 99% significance level. The probability of the average weekly temperature being higher than normal is estimated to be “between 50-70%”.
