What a heat! Yellow warning extended until the early hours of Tuesday: Where?

The yellow weather warning initially issued for the weekend across all districts of the country has been extended until midnight on Tuesday for Beja, Braga, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Évora, Faro, Guarda, Portalegre, Porto, Santarém, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real, and Viseu.

In the districts of Aveiro, Coimbra, Leiria, and Lisbon, where a “persistence of high maximum temperature values, except along the coastal strip,” is forecast, the yellow warning ends at 18:00 today.

The yellow warning is issued when there is a risk to certain activities dependent on weather conditions.

The IPMA forecasts hot weather in the coming days on the mainland, with values exceeding the climatological norm for this time of year.

This temperature rise, according to IPMA, is due to “the intensification of a high-pressure system located over the Azores and the establishment of a ridge associated with this anticyclone extending to the Bay of Biscay, promoting the transport of a continental air mass (hot and dry) over the Iberian Peninsula.”

The maximum temperature is expected to reach values above 30 degrees Celsius throughout most of the mainland territory, possibly approaching 40 degrees in some areas, particularly in Alentejo, the Tagus Valley, and the Douro Valley.

Only some areas along the western coastal strip may record values below 30 degrees due to the sea breeze, which will be moderate at times, especially during the afternoons.

The minimum temperature will also register high values, not dropping below 20 degrees in some regions, particularly in the south, the Tagus Valley, and Beira Baixa.
