An orange warning, the second highest level, has been issued due to “persistently high maximum temperatures” in these three districts, extended until Friday, as stated by the institute.
The districts of Évora, Beja, and Portalegre will be under an orange warning until 6 p.m. on Thursday, switching to a yellow warning for the rest of the day.
In Vila Real and Viseu, a yellow warning is in place until 6 a.m. on Thursday, after which it will be upgraded to orange until 6 p.m. on the same day.
In Porto, Faro, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro, Braga, and Lisbon, a yellow warning is effective until the end of Thursday, while in Santarém, Leiria, and Coimbra, the IPMA’s yellow warning is valid until 6 p.m. on Friday.
The government announced today that it will extend the alert situation, initially in effect until Wednesday, until the end of Friday, due to the increased risk of rural fires.
The renewal of the alert status is based on two main reasons: the continuation of high temperatures across the country in the upcoming days and a decrease in ignitions due to imposed prohibitions.
Effective measures include the prohibition of access, circulation, and presence within forest areas, according to the Municipal Forest Fire Defense Plans, as well as restrictions on burnings, with all related permits suspended for this period.
The alert situation also bans forest and rural work involving machinery and the use of fireworks and other pyrotechnics, with previously issued permits also suspended in these cases.
