When the accounts are done, which online supermarket is the cheapest? And the most expensive?

The Continente and Pingo Doce emerged as the online supermarkets with the lowest price levels from January 1 to December 31, 2024, as per the latest data updated by DECO PROTeste earlier this month.

The second place for the most affordable stores in 2024 is shared by Auchan and Froiz, while 360Hyper ranks third.

“Continente and Pingo Doce were the cheapest online supermarkets between January 1 and December 31, 2024. Consequently, DECO PROTeste awarded them the ‘Cheapest’ seal. Auchan and Froiz share the second place among the most budget-friendly online supermarkets, and the third position is taken by 360Hyper. The analysis was based on price indices calculated from January 1 to December 31 of the previous year,” stated a press release.

Daily, the consumer protection organization “collected the prices of a basket comprising more than two hundred products from nine online supermarkets operating in mainland Portugal – Apolónia, Auchan, Continente, El Corte Inglés, Froiz, Intermarché, Minipreço, Pingo Doce, and 360Hyper.”

“The data were weighted taking into account the expenditures of Portuguese families,” it further mentioned.

And the most expensive?

“Conversely, in 2024, El Corte Inglés (index 109) was the most expensive online supermarket, with price levels 9% higher than Continente and Pingo Doce. Positioned in the middle was Minipreço (index 106), 6% above the cheapest ones,” it additionally noted.
