The third day of debates among political parties for the legislative elections took place on Wednesday, focusing exclusively on the CDU (PCP-PEV coalition) and Livre. In contrast to the previous days, which featured double pairings—Monday saw CDU vs. AD and PAN vs. Chega, while Tuesday hosted Partido Socialista vs. Bloco de Esquerda and Chega vs. Livre.
Paulo Raimundo (CDU) and Rui Tavares (Livre) faced off on SIC Notícias, following their initial debates with right-wing parties.
Both leaders emphasized international issues, with the CDU highlighting that Portugal is “a sovereign country” and not merely an “appendage of NATO or the United States.” Rui Tavares of Livre provocatively questioned, “Who still believes in NATO?”
The discussion also brought external figures like Vladimir Putin into the spotlight, along with the matter of armament in Europe. Paulo Raimundo argued against excessive militarization, saying that the bloc “does not need to arm itself to the teeth,” while Rui Tavares countered by stating that it is Vladimir Putin who is “armed to the teeth.”
The latest conducted by CESOP – Universidade Católica Portuguesa for RTP, Antena 1, and Público, estimates CDU’s voter support at 3% and Livre’s at 5%.
