The Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police (PSP) has published a list of roads that will face traffic restrictions due to a protest associated with the general strike.
In a communication to the media, the PSP warned that “due to the General Strike scheduled for December 11, 2025, various disruptions should be expected, affecting both pedestrian and vehicle traffic” throughout the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. Hence, they emphasize that all individuals needing to travel to this area should “do so in a timely manner.”
Moreover, there will be a “large-scale protest march taking place in the center of Lisbon,” leading to the closure of several main routes in the capital.
“We also inform that you should avoid traveling near the routes included in the parade’s path to avoid being caught in traffic jams, as it will be necessary to close these roads during the demonstrators’ movement,” the authority added in the same note.
From 2:00 PM on Thursday, the 11th, the following roads will be restricted:
- Praça D. Pedro IV;
- Rua do Carmo;
- Rua Garrett;
- Rua Serpa Pinto;
- Travessa da Trindade;
- Rua Nova da Trindade;
- Largo do Chiado;
- Praça Luís de Camões;
- Rua do Loreto;
- Calçada do Combro;
- Rua dos Poiais de São Bento;
- Calçada da Estrela;
- Rua da Conceição Garção.
The PSP also emphasizes that “through various sectors of the Lisbon Metropolitan Command, it will be present on the main roadways, facilitating access to Lisbon” to ensure and assist the free flow of traffic. In the afternoon, the police are committed to ensuring the “constitutional right of assembly and demonstration while guaranteeing the safety of people and property” in the Lisbon region.
