This marks the third major fire affecting the Sabrosa municipality since July. The first outbreak impacted the Souto Maior area, followed by another that began in São Cibrão (Vila Real) and extended to São Martinho de Anta. Today’s fire, reported at 15:06, is in Paradela de Guiães.
Helena Lapa, the mayor of Sabrosa, communicated to Lusa agency that strong winds and projections are complicating efforts to combat the blaze, which is burning through adult pine forest.
“And the aerial resources, especially the planes, are facing significant challenges in effectively operating due to the dense black smoke,” the mayor described.
From a property in Roalde, Helena Lapa added that dogs were evacuated from a canine hotel, while the horses present were manually led away by their owners.
At present, she noted, “there are no villages under threat,” although the fire is moving between localities.
She further mentioned that, as a precaution, the municipality has vans ready to evacuate residents “if necessary.”
The fire initially posed a risk to the village of Sobrados, but the wind redirected the flames elsewhere.
According to the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), as of 18:50, there were 231 operatives, 62 vehicles, and four aerial units mobilized at the scene.
