Window manufacturers ask the Government for low interest rates to improve housing.

“The support for improving comfort and energy efficiency in Portuguese homes, as well as the necessary energy transition, has been marked by good ideas that have not always been fully realized,” the association states.

The ANFAJE announcement indicates that the Ministry of Environment and Energy will provide repayable loans for home renovations aimed at installing efficient windows, heat pumps, solar panels, thermal insulation applications, natural ventilation systems, and water efficiency improvements.

Eligible for financial support are individuals, tenants with the owner’s permission, municipalities, municipal housing companies, cooperatives, Private Institutions of Social Solidarity (IPSS), resident associations, and other entities involved in housing or social activities.

While awaiting “more information” on the new support program, ANFAJE recalls that the Casa Eficiente 2020 program “was compromised due to the high interest rates set by banks, with interest values very close to or even higher than those of consumer credit financing solutions,” notes the president, João Gomes.

“We are quick to criticize decisions, but also to praise actions that are beneficial for all Portuguese,” the official adds, as quoted in the statement.

According to ANFAJE, this government measure is funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) and will be managed by the Portuguese Development Bank (BPF), with technical support from the Climate Agency (APC).
