Estimated wine production for the 2025/2026 season is projected to reach 6.2 million hectoliters, reflecting an 11% decrease from the previous season, according to a statement by the Instituto da Vinha e do Vinho (IVV).
If this forecast holds true, it will mark a 12% decline compared to the average production of the last five seasons.
The most significant reductions are expected in Douro (-20%), Lisbon (-15%), and Alentejo (-15%).
Combined, these three regions will produce 679,000 hectoliters less than in the previous season.
This decrease is attributed to meteorological instability, which has created conditions conducive to the development of fungal diseases.
The IVV emphasized that weather conditions leading up to the harvest will be crucial in determining both the quantity and quality of the yield.
