The event organized by the Câmara de Pinhel in the district of Guarda, in partnership with the Beira Interior Regional Wine Commission (CVRBI), was today presented at Brasão Dourado, the latest tourist venture in the city.
“The Beira Interior — Vinhos & Sabores has had the great virtue of perceiving the region as a whole, contributing to valorizing, promoting, naming, and giving visibility to the best products from these 20 municipalities, from Proença-a-Nova [district of Castelo Branco] to Mêda [district of Guarda],” highlighted Daniela Capelo, president of the Pinhel municipality, during the event’s presentation session.
The event will take place at the Logistics Center of Pinhel and will feature a wine salon with about 50 producers, commented tastings, regional product tastings, ‘showcooking’ sessions, gastronomy, and concerts.
Valéria Zeferino, deputy director of the Vinho — Grandes Escolhas magazine, and enologists Tiago Macena, Ângela Marin, Jenny Silva, and Patrícia Santos will lead the wine tastings, one of which will be dedicated to sparkling wines.
The ‘showcookings’ will be conducted by Diogo Rocha, executive chef of the restaurant Mesa de Lemos (Silgueiros, Viseu), awarded with a Michelin star and judge on the television program Masterchef, and Joana Barrios, author of the book “O da Joana”, whose easy recipes have led to a program on the 24Kitchen channel.
The 10th edition of Beira Interior — Vinhos & Sabores will also feature an unusual seminar/workshop titled “Pinhel in Essence. An olfactory-wine journey through the soul of Beira Interior,” with Cláudia Camacho, Portugal’s first independent perfumer.
Artist Ekaterina Zavodun Pereira will perform a live painting session using wine.
“With this initiative, the Câmara de Pinhel aims to create dynamics in the local economy, in the territory, and in promoting our endogenous products, especially the Beira Interior wines, which are increasingly recognized for their quality and versatility,” said Daniela Capelo.
Rodolfo Queirós, president of the Beira Interior Regional Wine Commission (CVRBI) based in Guarda, stated that Beira Interior — Vinhos & Sabores “helped us leverage the brand of Beira Interior and was a winning bet.”
“The region gained a notoriety it didn’t have, and I believe it also helped motivate several producers to enter not only the wine business but other products where we have made a very good path of quality improvement,” he added.
Also present at the event’s presentation, chef Diogo Rocha considered that initiatives like Beira Interior — Vinhos & Sabores are important to “communicate what this region is” and assured that on the weekend of November 21 to 23, visitors “will understand, through gastronomy and wines, that they are in Pinhel.”
