In Sunday’s municipal elections, PS candidate Ana Martins and PSD/CDS-PP candidate Mickael Silva both received 100 votes. This resulted in a technical tie, leaving undecided who will be president for the next four years.
In response, the general assembly convened to recount the votes and examine any complaints or grievances presented.
Luís Vaz, also a member of the PS council, stated to Lusa that during the recount conducted by the general assembly, one vote was declared invalid for each candidate, leaving Ana Martins and Mickael Silva with 99 votes each.
The new elections are scheduled for October 26, in accordance with the law that mandates elections on the second Sunday following the initial vote.
