Teachers and school employees established a new camp in defense of public education yesterday and, with approximately thirty tents already erected, insisted that the protest will continue.

Several dozens of teachers and non-teaching workers will occupy Rossio Square in Lisbon for one night as part of a new camp for better careers and the recovery of service time that is expected to last until May 1st.

The coordinator of the Union of All Education Professionals (Stop) reaffirmed to journalists that the protest, which has been going on almost nonstop since the end of last year, will continue until the government meets the demands.

The main demand is old, but this time the teachers appear to accept no other response than the full recovery of the six years, six months, and 23 days of career time that has been frozen.

Ana Custódio, a history and geography teacher, confirms this, emphasizing that education professionals, who are more united than ever, are unwilling to accept another postponement of the recovery of their service time.

On Tuesday, these same professionals will participate in the 25th of April national demonstration, and the coordinator of Stop, André Pestana, has once again called for the participation of civil society, arguing that besides the public school, which should be a struggle for all, the defense of public health, workers, and housing are also at stake.
